Email a Friend Print Article The Straw that Broke the Camel's Back
To know Jesus is to know everlasting Grace. It is to know eternal forgiveness. It is to know endless mercy. We know that, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9) There is no limit to the things that can be "gotten away with". This Grace could be a license to do whatever you want. Yet Romans 6:1-2 warns against this presumptuous lawlessness.
Firstly the end of sin is death (Romans 6:16). "Ah, this is not a big deal. I have good old trusty I John 1:9 to fall back on", says the sinner. Who can argue with that? The Grace of God is endless. There is not a sin that I can think of that God can not forgive. Where then is this death? What is this straw that breaks the camel's back?
Look around you at the wisdom which cries without as you are exhorted to do in Proverbs 1:20-23. She teaches by example of those who came before you. The fool teaches the end of folly and the wise the end of wisdom. Who has not seen the person driven to the mental hospital by the sins they can not believe that God will forgive them of? Who has not seen the person who sits home depressed unable to go to church or believe that God can use them in ministry? Who has not seen the person who has turned their back on God in anger because of their own lack of faith? The straw has broken the camels back. They have reached a point where their own lack of faith holds them back from fellowship with God. You see God's Grace is just as vast and His mercy is just as strong. His Love is just as deep but it is out of reach for them through their own inability to forgive themselves and believe that God would receive them.
Do not allow this to be you. Keep your tabs short before God continuously talking to God in prayer and living in relationship and fellowship with Him (Romans 12:12). Keep yourself from presumptuous sins (Psalm 19:13). Do not believe the age old lie of the Devil that there can be a little sin because sin begets sin in a snowball effect (Romans 1:21-32). Remember that the Lord is merciful not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance (II Peter 3:9). Whether or not someone who lives a life dedicated to sin will be received into heaven or cast into the pit is beside the point. Who wants to live a life of hell on earth when you can live an abundant life? If you are one who is reading this and you believe you have gone too far turn back to God now because Jesus Loves You (Luke 15:20, Luke 15:11-32).
